Simplicity of operation and dependability have
brought nitrogen systems into the agricultural indus-
try for controlled atmosphere generating equipment.

The VPSA Oxygen Adsorber uses two beds of acti-
vated carbon to remove oxygen from the C. A. cold
stores. VPSA is an acronym for “vacuum pressure
swing adsorption”. This system uses a technique which
swings between an over pressure condition in the
carbon bed when oxygen is adsorbed, to an under
pressure condition when the oxygen is released from
the bed. The VPSA utilizes a blower and vacuum
pump which provides a unique operating characteristic,
not available with hollow fibre and pressure swing
adsorbers. A recirculating air flow mode can draw
low oxygen air from the C.A. room. This enables the
adsorber to separate the oxygen more efficiently.
Maintaining positive pressure in the C.A. room
ensures easy maintenance of leaky rooms.
